Housing Access and Settlement Support

Housing Access and Settlement Support
Refugee Pathways and Integration Canada Inc. (RefPIC) provides direct housing assistance and coordinated settlement support to refugees and vulnerable newcomers across Canada. Access to secure and stable housing is essential for successful integration, yet many newcomers face overwhelming barriers including affordability, lack of rental history, documentation issues, and unfamiliarity with Canadian housing systems. Our Housing Access and Settlement Support program addresses these challenges through a hands-on, person-centered approach.
A Practical Response to Housing Barriers
Newcomers often struggle to access rental housing due to credit checks, lack of references, or the inability to provide standard Canadian documentation. High rental costs in many cities make affordability a serious concern, with some families paying more than half their income on rent. RefPIC provides targeted support to reduce these barriers and guide clients through each step of the housing journey.
Direct Assistance and Navigation
RefPIC staff and volunteers work closely with each family to identify suitable housing, assist with applications, accompany them to viewings, and advocate with landlords. We maintain a network of housing providers willing to rent to refugees, and we offer reference letters and caseworker support to help bridge documentation gaps. Our navigators help clients understand lease agreements, connect utilities, and ensure their rights as tenants are protected.
From Arrival to Long-Term Housing
We support newly arrived refugees by arranging short-term accommodation and quickly transitioning them into long-term rental housing. Our team coordinates with landlords, municipalities, and service providers to secure placements that align with each family's needs location, family size, schools, and employment opportunities. We also help access rent supports and public housing options when available.
Wraparound Settlement Support
Housing is only part of the settlement process. That’s why RefPIC integrates housing with broader support services including language training, employment preparation, orientation, and health access. Each newcomer is matched with a settlement worker who helps them navigate multiple systems and develop a sustainable plan for their life in Canada.
Working Across Canada
RefPIC delivers housing support directly in regions where we have local teams and offices. In other areas, we coordinate services through trusted partners; community agencies, municipalities, and volunteer networks to ensure consistent and reliable support. Our approach is collaborative, ensuring that newcomers receive the help they need, no matter where they land in Canada.
Building Foundations for Integration
Our goal is to ensure every family we support not only finds housing but is able to build a life within their new community. A secure home is the starting point for education, employment, social connection, and long-term success. Through our Housing Access and Settlement Support program, RefPIC helps refugees take the first step toward stability, dignity, and belonging in Canada.
